Shooting in Las Vegas? A Producer's Guide to Local Crew, Gear, and Logistics

4 min read

If you're a producer based outside Las Vegas and you've got a shoot heading our way, the logistics can make or break your budget and your schedule. Las Vegas is one of the most-filmed cities in the country, but it's also one of the trickiest to navigate if you don't know the terrain. This guide covers what out-of-town producers need to know to run a smooth Las Vegas shoot.

We've been the local production partner for networks, agencies, and producers flying into Las Vegas for over 45 years. Here's the practical rundown.

Hire Local Crew Instead of Flying Everyone In

The single biggest cost and headache saver: staff your crew locally. Flying in a full team means travel, lodging, per diems, and gear shipping — and a crew that doesn't know the city. A local crew already knows the venues, the loading docks, the parking, and the rigging quirks, and they show up with their own gear. You can fly in your key creative and crew the rest here. We cover this in detail on our Las Vegas video crew page.

Understand Venue and Casino Rules

Filming on the Strip is not like filming anywhere else. Every casino property has its own rules about cameras, permits, security escorts, and where you can and can't shoot. Convention centers have union considerations. Public areas may require permits from Clark County or the city. A local partner who already has relationships at these venues can clear in hours what might take an out-of-towner days. For venue-specific guidance, see our pages on the Las Vegas Convention Center and Mandalay Bay.

Plan for Gear Logistics

Shipping gear cross-country is expensive, slow, and risky. Renting locally — or working with a production company that owns its gear — eliminates freight costs and the nightmare of a camera package stuck in transit the day before your shoot. It also means same-day replacement if something fails. We own our gear, which is a big part of why producers work with us.

Account for Parking and Vehicle Access

This is the detail that catches out-of-town producers off guard. Strip parking garages have strict height limits that most production vehicles, cargo vans, and gear trucks exceed. Knowing which garages accommodate tall vehicles, where the loading docks are, and how to stage vehicles is local knowledge that saves hours on shoot day.

Build in Time for the Unexpected

Las Vegas runs 24/7, which is a gift and a challenge. Crowds, events, and conventions can complicate access and timing. An experienced local partner helps you scout, schedule around the city's rhythms, and build contingency into the day so a surprise convention or a closed entrance doesn't derail your shoot.

Work With a Local Production Partner

The thread running through all of this is the same: a local partner turns a logistically complex out-of-town shoot into a routine day. From crew and gear to permits, venues, and vehicle staging, the right Las Vegas company handles the things you can't easily manage from across the country.
